Warwick Boat Club rounded off the rowing season with a trip to Worcester Regatta. There were wins in both men’s and women’s eights events, as well as strong performances from the men’s doubles, mixed double, and the women’s intermediate 4+ who were unlucky to miss out in a tight final.
The women’s masters eight of Hilary Wescombe, Sarah Heaven, Emma Tod, Kate Parkinson, Hannah Thomas, Gill Benson, Linda Rikelman and Samantha Wesley rowed to victory in a very tight race against an experienced crew from Ross Rowing Club. The men’s eight of Chris Bailey, Lloyd Smerklo, Jon Brandt, Joe Elwell, Ed Walker, Philip Tonkin, Richard Nicholson and Tom Grinstead were coxed to comfortable victories over both Hereford RC and Burton Leander RC by Sam Wesley.
For several members of both crews this was their novice win; a particularly impressive feat for both Sarah Heaven and Richard Nicholson who only learnt to row on one of the clubs ‘Learn to Row’ courses earlier this year.
Both squads now turn their attention to the winter season, and the famous Tideway Head races later in the year.
