Ladies beat Gents by two shots

Warwick Boat Club ladies clinched a narrow victory over the club’s men’s team by winning the final end of the final match by two shots. In a tightly fought contest between two well-matched teams the ladies were leading 28-27 with two matches left on the green. Diane Harvey had skipped Sue Probert, Di Wood and Carolyn Labrum to a 19-11 victory over John Labrum’s men’s team. But But Martin Dean (skip), Alan Parker, Barry Golding and Graham Ambrose secured a 16-9 win over Lyn Taylor’s team. On rink three John Fielden and Sandra Dean were locked together at 14-14 with one end remaining. The gents picked up three shots on the last end and won the match after coming back from 6-13 down after 13 ends.  All eyes were now on the last game with the gents leading 44 - 42. This game involved two married couples Jeremy and Jacqui Ashley and David and Chris Hurst . The ladies were leading by two going into the last end. All to play for with the overall match scores level, this time the ladies took the game and the match by two shots. The two teams then repaired to the clubhouse for tea and cakes, supplied by the ladies. The men then slunk into the kitchen licking their wounds to do the washing-up and to plot revenge for the next match. Cosette Lawton won the Spider.
