Even in this unusual season the Warwick Boat Club Bowls Section managed to arrange their popular Ladies v Gents match. This year to adapt to Social Distancing the contest was played as eight pairs split into two games of nine ends. A bit of Ryder/Solheim Cup tactics came into play here.
The first game started with the sun shining but a brisk wind. The gents were out for revenge after being whitewashed in last year’s series and won all four games by a total score of 41 – 13.
The Ladies came back strong in the second game and won this by 3 games to 1 by a total score of 34 – 27.
So overall the men won by 5 games to 3 with a score of 68 – 47. No trophy awarded this year but male pride was restored.
Playing only nine ends produced some close scores. Perhaps a format to be considered again when/if things return to normal.
No Ladies/Gents match would be complete without some side prizes so a half bottle of wine each went to the pair with the biggest win. This went to David Hurst and Alan Harvey. The spider was won by Diane Harvey.
