"They think it's all over...."
After being narrowly defeated by the Ashley’s in their ladder challenge, Celia Bellamy and Di Wood decided to have another shot at dislodging them from their lofty position and so a return match was scheduled before the green closed this weekend.
The four players met on Friday on a sunny but blustery afternoon for one final encounter which proved to be yet another close game in this tournament.
Celia and Di got off to a good start, winning the first two ends before Jacqui and Jeremy found their form and began to challenge with some well-placed shots. This was going to be close it seemed. Each pair took alternate ends with a single shot until on the fourth end, with the Ashley’s holding shot, Di played her final wood to take the jack back to take four shots; Celia and Di now led 6 -2. The Ashley’s were not phased and fought back taking 3 on the 7th end to pull the score back to 7 -5. With five ends left to play this was anyone’s game and both pairs played strongly, once again taking alternate ends by a single shot until the Ashley’s took 2 on the eleventh to bring the score back to 9 -8 and anyone’s game. However, Celia and Di held their nerve taking 3 shots and the game on the 12th end. Final score, 12 – 8.
